The Press Association course offers you the best chance of achieving your ambition of becoming a news reporter, and we have been named the top performing course by the NCTJ more times than any other training provider. We offer courses in our Newcastle and London training centres.
Most of our trainees go on to forge successful careers in journalism, working at titles all over the country and abroad. As well as the knowledge and experience you will gain, you can expect to make some amazing contacts through the course that will hold you in good stead as you begin life as a reporter.
We pack a huge amount into the 17-week course and our trainees must be prepared to rise to the challenge. We cover all the areas of knowledge required by a multi-media reporter today, including:
- News awareness
- News values
- Writing skills
- Shorthand to 100 words per minute
- Government/Public Affairs
- Reporting online
- Video journalism
- Understanding the business of news
In Newcastle, all training takes place in our fantastic, fully-equipped training centre in the offices of Trinity Mirror, publisher of the titles at NCJ Media and our trainers are among the best in the business at developing talented, new reporters. This training centre was established in 1969 and became famous as the starting point for the careers of many of the UK’s leading journalists. Today, we are proud to continue this rich tradition of providing the best training on offer.
Our London headquarters are two minutes from Victoria Station and ideally placed in the very centre of London. Our main newsroom there is staffed 24 hours a day, and from there we provide news, pictures and video coverage of the biggest stories in the UK, 365 days a year. Our London course follows an almost identical programme to its Newcastle partner and is embedded within the offices of the national news agency of the UK and Ireland.
Our next course starts on August 22 2016 to December 16 and then January 23 2017 to May 19 2017.
